How to Play

House rules

How to play, Dora's way.

Four rules, borrowed from how you pet her, because the game and the dog run on the same manners.

1

Pick your grid

Gentle, Cozy, Proper Challenge, or Ear Spot if you are feeling brave. And Mom's rule, borrowed from petting: ask first, be kind. It applies to grids, dogs, and people.

2

Tap a square, read the clue

That is the handshake. Dora inspects every letter thoroughly.

3

Stuck? Ask Dora

She will sniff out a letter, and if you find the ear spot hidden in the grid, the whole word is yours.

4

Say it out loud

"One more word, Dora." Ritual complete. Grid finished, Dora petted.

Crossword basics

New to grids? Dora has you.

Across and Down

Words run left to right (Across) and top to bottom (Down). They cross each other, so every letter you get right helps two words at once.

The numbers

Each word starts in a numbered square. The clue list uses the same numbers, so 1 Across is the word that starts at square 1 and runs right.

The ear spot

One square in every DoraGrid grid is secretly the ear spot, her factory-installed happiness button. Find it and its whole word completes.

Comfort is a feature

  • Big, kind letters, with grid zoom when you want them bigger.
  • A high-contrast grid theme for bright rooms and tired eyes.
  • A friendly, highly readable font, with an extra-legible option in the app settings.
  • Wrong letters are tidied with a paw, never buzzed at you. Errors are information, not failure.
  • Sound and motion can both be turned down. Dora calms down too.
